Job Description
Atkins has a leading position as an independent consultancy in the Defence market. The Defence business is a progressive and rapidly expanding part of Atkins. We plan, design and enable complex defence programmes. We successfully deliver independent programme management and high-end engineering (systems engineering, safety and supportability engineering, structural engineering) services to the MoD and Defence industry.

We require an experienced Consultant to take a leading role in the development of the company’s costing and investment appraisal business. This will involve a combination of: § Project management and delivery on a range of MOD and other government department assignments; § Business development, bid management and bid writing; § Development of the company’s capabilities in the area.

ESSENTIAL:

Qualifications:

Minimum 2:1 degree or equivalent in a numerate discipline (higher degree(s) and qualifications in relevant subjects would be an advantage).

Skills and experience required:

· Previous experience in a consultancy environment.

· Experience of working on defence-related projects.

· An appreciation of the defence acquisition process (SMART acquisition and the CADMID cycle) and an understanding of the whole life costs associated with equipment procurement.

· A good understanding of the principles, guidelines and methods used in the cost analysis of military equipments, systems and capabilities.

· Experience of conducting investment appraisals to support the Combined Operational Effectiveness and Investment Appraisal (COEIA) process.

· Ability to liaise effectively with senior clients to help define and clarify requirements and collate relevant data/information.

· Experience of risk management.

· Experience in cost modelling and analysis.

· Familiarity and confidence in using cost models and spreadsheets for data analysis and presentation.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Flexible approach to work, able to work alone or as part of a team.

Successful applicants will be required to be security cleared to SC level prior to appointment.
