Primary responsibilities:

• Maintain compliance with Divisional/Regional buying procedures
• Develop working relationships with our Preferred Suppliers and fulfil the role of Relationship Manager to the suppliers assigned.
• Ensure the purchase of commercially viable materials to meet client's requirements
• Provide technical support and advice to other disciplines in all material related matters
• Aspire to the highest possible standards of material ordering and procurement
• Maintain compliance with the material procurement programme

Secondary responsibilities:

• Work effectively within the Buying department and with other disciplines
• Promote the use of new and innovative materials and systems
• Review drawings and specifications for materials compatibility
• Champion partnering
• Promote quick and equitable resolution of disputes
• Monitor material supply performance and provide early warning of future problems
• Focus strongly on internal communication
• Be objective and pro active focusing on solutions
• Work with preferred suppliers/partners
• Encourage the receipt of detailed accurate information from other disciplines
• Make use of all available technology to assist in the buying function

Essential skills required:
• Proven track record in purchasing brickwork and carpentry materials for new build construction projects.
• Sound construction technical and product knowledge.
• Ability to read drawings.
• Ability to take off and schedule brickwork and carpentry materials from drawings.
• Commercial awareness.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word.
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work as part of a team and alone as required.
• Attentive to detail.
• Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
• Good time management and ability to prioritise.
• Good decision maker
