Introduction:
Our client is a world renowned shipbuilding company serving the defense industry including the Royal Navy. An opportunity has now arisen for a Principal Structural Engineer to join their Ship facility in Portsmouth.
As a time served professional, you will be involved in the construction of new surface ships for the Royal Navy.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Chief Structural Engineer the Principal Structural Engineer will be responsible for the following:
- To be aware of labour and material budgets and be willing to effectively contribute towards multidiscipline design teams on specific projects,
- Investigate and resolve technical problems,
- Undertake structural analysis of marine structures and interface with customers at all levels,
- Supervise design teams,
- Manage budgets and delivery schedules for projects.
Candidate Requirements:
- The successful candidate will have proven applicable technical experience in the marine industry
- The ability to work as part of a team and be able to work under own initiative,
- Effective written and verbal communicative skills and the ability to present and sell technical solutions to potential customers.
- Be educated to degree level in Naval Architecture or a similar discipline and be Chartered,
- Have knowledge of the requirements of Classification societies with regards to structural design,
- Experience in the use of the LR SCC software, MATHCAD and AutoCad is advantageous,
- Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
