Mechanical technician to work in a laboratory environment to build assemblies from mechanical design drawings. Skills required, drilling tapping, pipefitting and bending, sheetmetal work / using jigsaws etc.
1. stainless steel piping using compression and threaded fittings, able to distinguish between different threads and sizes
2. Knowledge about different types of fittings and hydraulic instrumentation, i. e. ball and needle valve, check valve, pressure relief device, pressure switch, flow meter, pressure gauge, etc.
3. knowledge about cabling and electrical instrumentation, i. e. Thermocouples, heating elements, temperature control, relays, fuses, connecting plugs/sockets to cables
4. familiar with pressure and temperature, i. e. know how to convert psi in bar, kPa or °C in K and reverse.
5. know what DC and AC is.
6. know how to use simple laboratory equipment, power supplies, temperature controllers, mass flow meters etc.
7. familiar with simple manual and hand held power tools, soldering, gimping.
8. familiar with different materials, i. e. stainless steel, plastics and their area of usage with regard to temperature, pressure and media.
