Job Summary
Atkins Defence is a progressive and rapidly expanding part of the Atkins group providing high end technical and project management services to the principal defence companies. Our growing team in Derby provide specialist technical, mechanical, safety and reliability engineering and project management services, primarily to Rolls-Royce. Engineers with demonstrable mechanical engineering and analytical skills are required to deliver a range of technically challenging projects supporting the development of safety cases in the nuclear industry. In addition to your technical skills, you will be able to use your understanding of engineering principles and methods to find cost effective solutions to problems. Requirements
Essential - Due to the nature of work undertaken at our client's site, incumbents of these positions are required to meet special nationality rules and therefore these vacancies are only open to sole British Citizens. Applicants who meet this criteria will also be required to undergo security clearance vetting, if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.
- Degree qualified in Mechanical or a related engineering discipline,
Desirable - Stress analysis (traditional hand calculation methods and Finite Element techniques)
- Fatigue and damage tolerance
- Structural dynamics
- Safety case development
- Thermal analysis
- Experienced in the use of FE Techniques (Abaqus LS Dyna, Ansys preferred)
- Familiar with the Nuclear industry and/or Submarine Nuclear Steam Raising Plant
Responsibilities
- Carrying out sufficient calculations under direction (ranging from hand calculations to finite element models) to demonstrate sound design or to identify problems
- Undertaking small requirements capture to identify the scope of work required , supporting bid development and marketing opportunities
- Supporting our QA process through checking of colleagues work
- Authoring and updating of minor technical documents to present technical findings (Design Substantiation Reports, Safety Justifications, Safety Cases etc.......)
- Supporting client presentations to present our work
